Clearasil® Tips for Healthier Winter Skin

Clearasil® Tips for Healthier Winter Skin

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. (And then hydrate some more.)

It’s easy for your skin to dry out during the winter time--but it’s also easier than you think to prevent that from happening. Drink more water than usual to help keep your body hydrated from the inside. Pro-tip: keep a large reusable bottle with you and aim to drink more water than you usually do.
Oily skin isn’t the only skin at risk for breakouts. In fact, dry skin is just as likely to experience acne. When skin is dry, it is more prone to irritation and for acne prone skin—that can mean breakouts. Keeping a good hydration balance is important to keeping a good skin moisture balance.

     2. And moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Use a rich, oil-based moisturizer to help protect your skin, especially as temperatures drop and the cold, blistering wind picks up. Your hands and face will unfortunately take the brunt of the harsh winter weather.  So, try keeping a smaller bottle of moisturizer in your purse or gym bag to easily reapply after washing your hands and face. Wearing gloves and mittens could also help minimize the harsh effects of cold and wind in your hands.

Rich oil-based moisturizers are therapeutic for dry body skin. If you have acne prone skin on the face, chest or back, reach for lighter moisturizes that are less likely to clog pores. Additionally, there are lotions available (such as Clearasil® Ultra Rapid Action Lotion) that have been formulated to be a light weight, non-drying formulation that also treats acne breakouts (use all Clearasil® products as directed)

      3. It starts from the inside out.

Eating foods rich in water will help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Apples, oranges and vegetables like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. Also make sure you’re getting enough vitamin C and zinc to enhance the production of collagen and elastin.

        4. If your skin still feels like it’s cracking or drying out after the extra hydration and moisturizer, try a humidifier.

The heating in your home or apartment might be sucking out the moisture from the air, drying out your skin. Rather than wearing layer upon layer and shutting off the heat a simple plug-in humidifier can help put some moisture back in the air. Just make sure you follow the instructions and clean and care for it regularly.

Additionally, consider the type of skin cleanser you are using. Bar soap and soap-based cleanser can be very drying on their own any time of year. Consider switching to a micellar water or cleansing pads to lower the level of surfactants you are exposing your skin to on regular basis.  Clearasil® has multiple cleansing pads suitable for everyday use. For winter months, our go to recommendations would be the Gentle Prevention Line or Stubborn Acne Control 5in1 Line if breakouts have become persistent.

          5. If you’re suffering from a breakout, only use acne treatments that are non-drying like the Clearasil Gentle Prevention line.

All Clearasil® Gentle Prevention products have a lower dose of salicylic acid, designed to improve skin’s complexion without over-drying and can treat pimples up to three weeks before they’re visible.   (Pimples start forming under the skin up to 3 weeks before they’re visible)

Also watch out for medicated washes that contain BPO (benzoyl peroxide) which can be drying on skin and may lead to further skin irritation.  Reach for the Clearasil Gentle Prevention line because it contains a medium dose of salicylic acid to fight the breakout, is oil free, non-drying and pH balanced.

            6. And just because it’s below 30 degrees, doesn’t mean the sun can’t still damage your skin.

Sunscreen isn’t just for summer and it’s important to apply it regularly when you’re on the ski slopes, outside ice skating or tailgating, and be sure to follow all directions for use.
